Domain overview and rankings
Size up any website in one lookup: its search traffic, the keywords it ranks for, its backlinks and its competitors.
What it shows
The domain overview is the first thing to run on any site, yours or a competitor's. One lookup shows:
- Organic traffic: estimated monthly visits from Google's unpaid results.
- Traffic value: what those visits would cost if you bought them as ads.
- Organic keywords: how many keywords the site ranks for, and how many of them on page one.
- Position spread: how many keywords sit in the top 3, positions 4 to 10, 11 to 20 (striking distance), 21 to 50 and 51 to 100.
- Backlinks and referring domains: how many links point to the site, and from how many different sites.
- Domain rating and spam score: the strength of its backlink profile, and how risky it looks.
- Top keywords and top competitors.
Note: Traffic figures are estimates, not measurements. They are modelled from the keywords a site ranks for, how often each is searched and how many clicks each position usually gets. Use them to compare sites and spot trends. For your own site's exact numbers, use Google Search Console.
Where to find it
- Dashboard: type a domain in the search bar at the top and pick a country. The home screen shows the overview.
- Domain Overview: the full list of ranking keywords, for a whole domain or just part of it.
- Rankings: your position spread and your striking-distance keywords.
Choose the right country
Search results differ by country. A UK bakery ranks for different searches in the UK than in the US. Pick the country where your customers are. Each country is a separate lookup with its own saved result.
Scope: domain, subdomains, folder or page
On Domain Overview you can research a whole site or just part of it. Type a domain or a full address and choose the scope:
| Scope | What it covers | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Subdomains | The domain plus all its subdomains | brewlab.coffee and shop.brewlab.coffee |
| Domain | The hostname only | brewlab.coffee |
| Subfolder | One section and everything under it | brewlab.coffee/guides/ |
| Exact URL | One page | brewlab.coffee/guides/cold-brew |
Subfolder scope is powerful for competitor research: look only at a rival's blog, or only at their product pages.
Reading the ranking keywords
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Keyword | The search the site appears for |
| Position | Where it ranks, 1 being the top organic result |
| Volume | Average monthly searches in the chosen country |
| Traffic | Estimated monthly visits this keyword sends the site |
| Difficulty | How hard the keyword is to rank for, 0 to 100 |
| CPC | What advertisers pay per click, a sign of commercial value |
| URL | The page that ranks |
Sort by traffic to see what really drives a site's visits. Sort by position to find keywords sitting just outside page one.
What to do with it
- On your own site: open Rankings and look at striking distance, positions 11 to 20. These pages already rank; improving them is usually the fastest win. See Rank tracking to follow them.
- On a competitor: look at their top keywords and top pages to learn what works in your market, then run Content gap to list what you are missing.
- Before a partnership or purchase: a site's traffic value, keyword count and link strength tell you how established it is.
Cost
About 8 credits per domain and country, free to reload for 24 hours. It shares its saved result with Competitors, so opening that page right after is free. Each page of the full keyword list costs about 2 credits.
