Free Mobile-Friendly Test
See your page as Google renders it on a phone, and check the viewport, text size, tap targets, zoom, horizontal scrolling and pop-ups. Free, no account.
Enter any page. Google loads it on a phone while its HTML is checked.
What Makes a Page Mobile-Friendly
- A responsive viewport:
width=device-width, initial-scale=1, declared once. - Readable text: no body text under 12px.
- Tap targets you can hit: links and buttons at least 24px, ideally 44px.
- Nothing wider than the screen: no fixed widths that force sideways scrolling.
- No pop-up on arrival and zoom left on, so the content is reachable and readable.
Slow on phones? The page speed checker shows Core Web Vitals on mobile and desktop, and the image SEO checker finds the heavy images behind most slow mobile loads.

The screenshot shows what a visitor on a phone sees when the page finishes loading.
- 3
Read the checks
Each mobile check, from the viewport to tap targets, is listed with what was found and how to fix it.
- 4
Fix and test again
Add a responsive viewport, remove fixed widths, enlarge small text and tap targets, then run the test again.
Check more than mobile
The free audit runs these same mobile checks, plus indexability, titles, schema, links, Core Web Vitals and AI-search readiness.
Mobile-Friendly Test FAQ
Did Google shut down its Mobile-Friendly Test?
Yes. Google retired the Mobile-Friendly Test and the Mobile Usability report in Search Console in December 2023 and pointed people to Lighthouse. This test runs Google's Lighthouse on a phone for the preview and checks the page's HTML for the same mobile problems.
What makes a page mobile-friendly?
A viewport set to the device width, text large enough to read without zooming, tap targets big enough to hit, no content wider than the screen, no pop-up covering the page on arrival, and zoom left enabled.
Does mobile-friendliness affect Google rankings?
Google indexes the mobile version of every page (mobile-first indexing), so content that's missing or broken on a phone is missing for Google too. A poor mobile experience also costs visitors, whatever it does to rankings.
Why does the preview look different from my phone?
Google renders the page on an emulated mid-range Android phone over a throttled connection, with no cookies. Cookie banners, location prompts and slow-loading content can look different from a phone that has visited before.
What is the viewport meta tag?
It tells phones how wide to lay out the page. <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> makes the page fit the screen; without it, phones render a desktop-width page and shrink it down.
Is the mobile-friendly test free?
Yes, with no signup.
