Broken link checker
Paste any page and every link on it is tested: dead pages, server errors, redirects and links to sites that block bots, each with its status code and anchor text. Free, no account.
Checks up to 100 links on one page. Works on any public URL.
How to find broken links on a page
- 1
Paste the page URL
Enter any public page, such as your homepage, a blog post or a resource page. The checker reads the links on that one page.
- 2
Run the check
Every link on the page is requested, redirects are followed to their destination, and each one is classed as broken, redirected, blocked or fine.
- 3
Fix the broken links first
Update or remove anything that returns a 404 or 410, and retry server errors later since they are often temporary.
- 4
Point redirected links at their destination
A link that redirects still works, but linking straight to the final URL saves a hop and passes signals more cleanly.
- 5
Check links that block bots by hand
Sites like LinkedIn and X refuse automated requests, so open those links in your browser to confirm they still load.
Check the rest of the page too
The free audit checks links alongside redirects, canonical tags, images and the rest of its 203 SEO and AI-search checks.
Frequently asked questions
What is a broken link?
A broken link points at a page that no longer exists or cannot be served, so the server answers with an error such as 404 Not Found or 410 Gone instead of the page. Visitors hit a dead end and search engines stop passing value through it.
Do broken links hurt SEO?
A few will not sink a site, but they waste crawl budget, leak the value internal links pass between your pages, and make a page look neglected. Broken internal links matter most, because they can hide pages from crawlers entirely.
What does 'couldn't verify' mean?
Some sites, including LinkedIn, X, Instagram and many news sites, block automated requests or answer them with 403, 429 or 999. That does not mean the link is broken, so the checker reports it separately instead of guessing. Open those links in a browser to confirm.
Should I fix redirected links?
They are not urgent, since the visitor still arrives. Updating them to the final URL removes a redirect hop, which is slightly faster and avoids chains that build up as sites move pages again.
How many links does it check?
Up to 100 unique links per page, within about 25 seconds. Links beyond that are listed as not checked. To check a whole site, run the free audit or check your most linked pages one at a time.
Does it check images and scripts?
This tool checks the links people click: every <a href> on the page, including links wrapped around images. The free site audit separately checks image URLs, canonical tags and redirects.
